Trust Me Vodka approached us to develop a package that would present their premium vodka in the best possible way. The bottle had to be the main focus of the package, but it needed support with packaging that not just looked remarkable, but would be interactive and also sustainable.
Our goal was to create a package that would be an eye-catching addition to any point of sale, bringing a definite wow factor, combined with a package that would be retained, even after the product was finished. The package was developed to encourage interactivity and to showcase the bottle inside in interesting and suggestive ways.
The design was developed at our Hong Kong offices and then every piece prototyped by hand to check on problems and ensure the final design was ready for mass production.
The box was made of a locally available yellow birch wood - it's light in color; is very durable and it's easy to work. We decided not to varnish the box, and opted for a dry sanding to reinforce the fine texture of the wood.
To keep with the natural look, we used a laser engraving for the sides and then a simple screen-print for the top logo. As a finishing touch we added a LED up-lighter to the inside of each box that when activated will illuminate the contents of the bottle.
As each box contains over 39 wood pieces — most of which are different sizes & shapes — it did present some assembly challenges at the factory, especially in the initial stages. However, two weeks of late nights at the factory dealt with those issues and the actual cutting and assembly of the boxes was on schedule with no major quality problems.
The final result is a package that invites curiosity and helps underline the message that this is no ordinary beverage. It's a new and refreshing take on a key problem — how to make the product stand out on the shelves. For Trust Me Vodka products, so much time and effort have been put into the formulation & production of the vodka itself, the product deserves to be showcased in an innovative way.
